About this coffee
Pieter Johannes Marie Keijsers is a Dutch farmer who moved to Brazil in the 1990s to do an internship and ended up building a career in agribusiness. After a foray into poultry farming and peanut exports, he became interested in coffee and in 2008 founded his own farm, Sítio Maracatu, near the city of São Sebastião do Paraíso. Maracatu is a 70ha farm located between 980 and 1000m above sea level. Pieter has spent the last few years improving quality, planting shade trees and experimenting with fermentation techniques to increase the quality and complexity of his coffees.
The anaerobic fermentation process used by Keijsers to produce its beans is one of the secrets behind the distinctive and complex flavor of this lot. The beans are hand-picked and carefully processed, ensuring the highest quality of the beverage. Keijsers is a dedicated producer committed to sustainable production, and his farm is an example of how it is possible to produce high- quality coffee while preserving the environment.
The result is a very nice expressive yet balanced coffee. It’s got the typical Brazilian characteristics, chocolate and nutty flavours with good body and sweetness. It’s complemented with yellow fruit flavours from the natural anaerobic fermentation.
