About this coffee

Altieri Specialty Coffee is a family business founded in 2005 by Eugene Altieri, an Italian-American entrepreneur who moved to Panama in 1973. Nearly two decades ago, Eugene acquired two farms, Pipim Estate and Mima Estate, in Boquete without knowing their potential for cultivating specialty coffee.

Today, Eugene’s children continue his legacy, working with a professional team to expand the Altieri Specialty Coffee brand, always focused on achieving the highest quality for their customers. For the Altieri family, coffee is not just a business; it’s a passion.

The present coffee comes from Mima Estate, located in Alto Quiel. The farm is situated at an impressive altitude, ranging from 1,800 to 2,200 masl. While the farm covers a total area of 45 hectares, 15 hectares are currently under cultivation, with an average annual production of 18.000 lbs. The farm is divided into different plots, which are identified by referring to the nicknames of Eugene’s grandchildren, where Geisha, Typica, Catuai, and Bourbon varieties are planted.

The coffee that you have the opportunity to taste comes from Chombi Lot. Sitting at 1800 masl, Chombi is a small plateau (2.5 hectares) next to the Volcán Barú National Park, where geisha plants grow under cultivated shade from Guava and Cedar trees at 60% coverage, with temperatures ranging from 16ºC to 22ºC. With such microclimate and meticulous care, Altieri is able to put out coffees with a special and complex combination of flavors, which have awarded them with four first places in the annual Best of Panama competition since 2014.

You can expect a ‘pure’ expression of Geisha, with an elegant and layered presentation of jasmine fragrance, and acidity and sweetness from white peach and lemon curd.
