About this coffee

In the year 1998, Gustavo Zuluaga took a significant step in his coffee journey by acquiring El Caney farm. Since that pivotal moment, he has devoted himself to the cultivation of coffee with unwavering commitment to good agricultural practices. Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Belén De Umbría, El Caney is a cherished part of the renowned coffee cultural landscape of Colombia. This cultural landscape, celebrated for its profound significance, was distinguished by UNESCO and inscribed onto the prestigious World Heritage List in 2011. It is here, amidst these hallowed grounds, that Gustavo Zuluaga passionately tends to the coffee plants, embracing both tradition and innovation in his quest to produce the finest Colombian coffee

Gustavo Zuluaga, along with his children, proudly represents the third and fourth generation of a venerable lineage of coffee growers. Their forebears embarked on a remarkable journey, arriving in this vibrant region from the department of Antioquia at the dawn of the last century. Their collective migration, known as ‘the Antioquia colonization,’ left an indelible mark on the landscape and the cultural fabric of the land.

For over a century, this resilient family has nurtured their deep connection with coffee, tending to the land and the precious coffee cherries it bears. In each cup of their coffee, you can taste the legacy of generations and the enduring commitment to their craft, rooted in a tradition that has withstood the test of time. The Zuluaga family’s unwavering dedication to their coffee heritage is a testament to the enduring spirit of Colombia’s coffee culture, where each sip is an invitation to savor the rich history and passion that fills every bean.

E.A. Process or Ethyl Acetate process is a very common and popular decaffeination process where they rehydrate the green beans by steaming them, once fully saturated they spray an Ethyl Acetate solution over the beans, and once fully coated they allow the beans to dry. When the beans are drying, the Ethyl acetate solution evaporates, taking the Caffeine with it. This makes for a really balanced sweet cup of decaf and one of our favourite methods.
