Costa Rica Los Campos Geisha

About this coffee

‘Los Campos’ farm is located in the ‘Los Santos’ region and more specifically Tablón del Guarco, Cartago. This region is recognised for high altitudes and quality coffee. Owned by the Ramirez-Navarro family, its founder and father of the family Mr. Alexis Ramirez was a farmer that dedicated his entire life to agriculture. He started growing coffee in 1990 on land inherited from his mother Anabel.

In 2015 the family made the big step of building their own micro-mill, “Los Campos” with the idea of processing the coffee themselves in order to focus on the quality and traceability of their micro-lots and stop depending on the cooperative system. 

The farm is currently 12ha in size (and growing); main varieties they cultivate are Caturra and Catuai, although they are taking new steps into planting more exotic varieties like Esperanza, Milenio (both F1-hybrids) and Geisha to diversify and become more sustainable. Geisha has been planted six year ago at the highest elevation of the farm at 2000 meters. This is their second crop of the geisha trees.
This natural lot is a ‘classic’ natural. After picking and floating, the cherries were taken to a greenhouse where the coffee was sundried for 30 days. The results is a layered coffee with good structure and flavours of mandarin,  jasmin and melon.
